From 1 July 2026, new Australian Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing (AML/CTF) legislation requires Atlas Realty Collective, along with all real estate agencies, to complete customer due diligence (CDD) for certain property transactions.
These government requirements are designed to help prevent money laundering, terrorism financing and other serious financial crimes.
As part of the CDD process, we are required to verify your identity and determine whether you are a politically exposed person or listed on any Australian sanctions lists. We may also ask about your reasons for buying or selling a property and, in some circumstances, your source of funds or source of wealth.
If you are buying or selling a property through a trust or company, we will also need to identify and verify the beneficial owners of that entity.
These checks are a legal requirement under Australian Government legislation and apply to all real estate agencies.
Customer due diligence will be completed when you engage Atlas Realty Collective to sell your property. As required by law, we cannot advertise your property until the required CDD process has been completed.
Customer due diligence must be completed once your offer to purchase a property has been accepted. In some circumstances, we may be able to rely on customer due diligence already completed by your settlement agent.
If you have any questions about the new AML/CTF requirements or the customer due diligence process, please don’t hesitate to speak with the Atlas Realty Collective team. We’re here to guide you through the process and make it as straightforward as possible.
